Maui United Way
Bridge resources that enrich and empower our County of Maui community
Thanks to our generous donors, our Maui Fire Disaster Relief Fund has allowed us to provide needed support for Maui’s fire survivors:
- Emergency Financial Assistance:Immediately after the fires, distributed more than $7.8 million in direct cash payments of $1,000 to nearly 8,000 fire-impacted individuals.
- Grants to Grassroots Organizations:Provided more than $400,000 in grants to 42 local organizations providing a range of care from helping with paperwork, to providing transportation, along with food and shelter.
- Addressing our Mental Health Crisis: MUW launched a new $500,000 Ohana Mental Health Grant aimed at supporting local nonprofits working in this field. We also steward the Sentry Malama Keiki Initiative, a novel mental health outreach program that literally meets keiki and young adults displaced by the fires where they are. Add to this funding Maui Flow Fest, a monthly drug-, alcohol- and tobacco-free dance event for teens, along with crisis, trauma and grief counseling, science and art camps, and support for budding athletes.
We stayed focused on the problems plaguing Maui County before the fires, especially around unmet needs, helping to fund:
- Tools for School Drive:Provided school supplies for 410 keiki.
- Holiday Toy Drive:Delivered joy in the form of gifts to 1,994 keiki.
- Kaukau 4 Keiki: Provided nutritious food boxes to keiki across the county. Our Hana spring distribution included 40 boxes that included poi, eggs, fresh coconut milk and produce.
Moving forward, Maui United Way’s priorities include: keiki and young adults; mental health; housing; workforce development; and nonprofit capacity-building.
Working together, we can inspire hope and create opportunities for a better tomorrow.
